Kalbe Farma - Klik Diabetes

React Native app helping people with diabetes build health habits that make therapy work. Built all four core modules: Health Records with Elvasense glucometer sync over BLE and Google Fit step integration, Diet & Nutrition with personalized calorie targets and a food directory, a Medication Reminder with adjustable alarms, and the diabetes education content module. 10,000+ downloads.

Situation

Diabetes therapy succeeds or fails on daily habits, not on clinic visits. Patients need to log blood sugar consistently, eat within a calorie target, and take medication on schedule — and most of that happens between appointments, unsupervised. Manual logging is exactly where adherence breaks down: it's tedious, easy to skip, and the resulting gaps leave doctors planning therapy from incomplete data. KlikDiabetes set out to close that gap in one app.

Task

Build the React Native application covering four modules that together form a full diabetes management loop: comprehensive health records that a doctor can plan therapy from, personalized diet and nutrition guidance, medication reminders that actually fire on time, and reliable diabetes education. The health records module had to remove manual entry wherever possible — integrating the Elvasense automatic glucometer over Bluetooth and syncing activity data from Google Fit.

Action

Built the app in React Native across Android and iOS. For Health Records, integrated the Elvasense automatic glucometer over BLE so readings sync from the device rather than being typed in, and wired Google Fit for step and activity data, then surfaced both as trend charts a doctor can read at a glance. Built Diet & Nutrition with personalized daily calorie recommendations, a searchable food directory, and diabetes-friendly recipes. Built the Medication Reminder on local notifications with a scheduling model flexible enough to match real prescription patterns — multiple daily doses, custom intervals, per-medication timing — paired with drug information pages. Built the "Regarding Diabetes" content module, serving articles filtered to the user's condition and needs. Handled offline behavior throughout, since logging can't depend on connectivity, and tested across the wide Android device range the audience actually carries.

Result

Shipped to 10,000+ downloads. Automatic glucometer sync and Google Fit integration removed the manual-entry friction that normally causes logging to lapse, giving doctors more complete data to plan therapy against. Medication reminders, calorie guidance, and condition-relevant education put the full management loop in a single app instead of scattered across paper logs, separate apps, and memory.

Overview

KlikDiabetes helps people build the health habits that make diabetes therapy succeed. I built the React Native mobile app across all four of its core modules.

The Real Problem Is Adherence

Diabetes management is not a hard clinical problem so much as a hard daily one. The therapy plan is known. Following it every day — logging blood sugar, staying within a calorie target, taking medication on time — is where it breaks.

Manual logging is the weakest link. It's tedious, it gets skipped, and skipped entries mean the doctor plans therapy from partial data. Every design decision in the app pushed toward removing friction from the daily loop.

Health Records

The records module is the app's spine, and its main job is to stop asking users to type.

Elvasense glucometer over BLE — readings sync automatically from the device. The user takes a measurement; the app records it. No transcription, no forgotten entry, no typo that skews a trend line.

Google Fit integration — step and activity data syncs from the platform the user's phone is already collecting, giving the doctor context that blood sugar alone doesn't provide.

Both feed trend views built to be read quickly in a consultation, not just archived.

Diet & Nutrition

Personalized daily calorie recommendations based on the user's profile, backed by a searchable food directory and a set of diabetes-friendly recipes.

The point isn't tracking for its own sake — it's making "what can I eat" answerable in the moment, before the meal rather than after logging it.

Medication Reminder

Built on local notifications, with a scheduling model that matches how prescriptions actually work: multiple doses a day, custom intervals, different timing per medication.

Local notifications matter here — the reminder has to fire whether or not there's a network connection, because a missed dose isn't recoverable. Each medication carries its drug information alongside the reminder, so "what is this for" is answerable at the moment of taking it.

Regarding Diabetes

The education module serves articles filtered to the user's condition and needs, rather than a generic feed. Reliable information matched to where someone actually is in managing their condition.

Offline and Device Reality

Two constraints shaped implementation throughout:

Logging can't require connectivity. Entries are recorded locally and synced when a connection returns. A user in a basement clinic still gets their reading saved.

The device range is wide. The audience carries everything from current flagships to years-old budget Android hardware. Testing spanned that range, because a health app that only works on new phones excludes exactly the people who most need it.
